RB Corey Grant, 2015 draft class
Auburn
SIZE: 5’10-205
SPEED: 4.34x40
POWER: n/a
AGILITY: n/a
There is not enough sound game film on Corey Grant to get a solid read for me thus far. In the small sampling available Grant shows true game-breaking speed. He’ll come into the NFL with incredibly fresh legs as he has carried the rock a mere 126 times over the past 2 college campaigns. Auburn backs are well-coached and usually pro-ready, but Grant’s limited action out of the backfield means he’ll have gaps in his techniques and recognition early in his pro career. Grant should be invited to the NFL Combine based on scouts’ and personnel types’ intrigue in his turf-scorching speed and his high-profile university. Key drills for Grant at the Combine will be his vertical and broad jump, work in pass-pro drills, pattern proficiency and hands-consistency in the always revealing ‘gauntlet’. The Auburn back is listed at 5’10-205; not likely. He appears smaller in his tape but seems to have the frame to add some size. The scouts’ knock on Grant’s running style is that he tends to dance and seek the home run rather than hit the line with gusto. AS more Corey Grant game cut-ups come available, I will dig in and expand.
FANTASY BREAKDOWN:
Corey Grant looks like a prospect with eye-catching speed and a solid frame that will need to be coached-up as a pro. Grant’s fantasy potential appears to be headed for an RBBC-at-best role in the NFL.
The Straight Talk: The Auburn backfield burner didn’t seize the opportunity to be the go-to back in a running back friendly offense. He’s a fresh-legged home run rusher that is going to need lots of instruction in the early going of his NFL career. Given his blazing speed and potential size limits, it seems imperative Grant show he can be a sound pass-catcher able to burn would-be tacklers from formation flanks. He didn’t show he could make that happen at Auburn. Fast guy with lots of work ahead if he is going to be a FFB contributor.
